Seconds before he was about to enter his elementary school doors I quickly summoned him back to the car and whispered to him that his pants were on backwards. Then while he quickly changed his pants I shielded him from any curious onlookers. Afterwards he took a deep breath and when he looked at me to say good-bye I got the "I really, really love you look" that any mother longs for. The look I have missed so much, along with a million thank you, thank you, thank yous. It feels good to know he still needs me. Even if it's only a little bit, I'll take it! I love him more than everything in the big blue sky and I love that just once in a while I still get to save the day for him.

saving the day
Do you ever miss your child looking at you right in the eyes and at that moment you can tell that they love you more than anyone in the whole world. Kind of like they used to do when they were much younger and you were practically the only person in their whole world. Eyes gleaming, filled with adoration and extreme gratitude for you in their life. A little while ago I managed by luck to get Canyon to give me that look once again....

awe, cute. I like that..
such a cute kid...I mean "teenager".
Mia would have insisted on just wearing them backwards. What to do with that girl???
That is so cute. I have to tell you my son would have crumbled in a million pieces to know that his pants were on backwards and that he had gotten all the way to the school where someone might actually have seen him. And then he would have proceeded to blame me for the fact that they were on backwards. I would have been his worst enemy at that time in his life. Good for you that your son has such a good attitude!!
Even though I am (in his mind) to blame for a lot of what goes wrong in his life right now I still wouldn't trade him in. :)
Gee, Mon...you have a way with words. Quaid is growing up so quickly and getting a little smartmouth attitude. I just miss my little sweet guy lately. So, your post gave me hope. It also made me giggle a little thinking about the times where you'd wear miss-match socks with your cheer uniform or {GASP} the wrongs socks all together. Like Mother like Son, right?
What a sweet story, and a sweet kid.
When are you going to write a book? You have a gift.
Canyon really is one sweeet boy. This was a cute little post about him. ( Just don't let him know you told everyone about the backward pants incident on the internet or he might just take that adoring look right back!)
